Israel and Hamas appeared close to a new conflict for much of Monday, though the situation calmed with the announcement of a ceasefire by the Islamist group. Israel has not yet confirmed the deal and fears remain of more violence in the build-up to the country's general election in two weeks. Ar around 5:15 am (0315 GMT) on Monday, a rocket was fired from southern Gaza, crashing into a house north of the Israeli commercial capital Tel Aviv.
